Sailing, Beginning - 317700

Participants will learn the fundamentals of small boat sailing, including steering and handling sails, boat rigging, and knot tying. Safe boating principles and fundamentals regarding wind patterns will also be discussed.

Learn to Sail participants are eligible for a 20 % discount on a Sailing Pavilion season pass. An automatic 20% discount will be applied after you have registered for a Learn to Sail class during the 2026 season. Please note that this discounted pass will be cancelled if you cancel your class registration.

In order to take a Learn to Sail, participants must sign a swim waiver attesting to swimming ability which will be emailed ahead of the first class.

Sailing, Intermediate - 317750

Class requirements: Must have taken a beginning level sailing course or have 1-2 seasons of sailing experience.

Students will build upon the skills they learned in BU's "Learn to Sail" course by learning sail trim, using the jib, using tell-tales as well as basic racing techniques such as, the different types of races, buoy roundings, skipper versus crew roles, weight placement, and roll-tacking.

Class 1: All about the sail; sail trim, using the jib, using tell-tales
Class 2: Intro to racing; types of races, buoy roundings, skipper versus crew roles
Class 3: Racing technique; weight placement, roll-tacking
Class 4: Scrimmages to use the skills we've learned
