Advanced Backpacking: Southern Presidentials - 111266

Prerequisites: Experience and proficiency in backpacking required as well as strong physical fitness.

Description: This multi-day adventure takes you deep into New Hampshire’s White Mountains to tackle a route in the Southern Presidentials. Expect long mileage (>8 miles per day), significant elevation gain (>3000’ gain/day), and potentially challenging weather conditions as we traverse some of the most scenic and storied trails in the Northeast. This trip is ideal for experienced backpackers ready to push their limits while enjoying breathtaking alpine views. Alternate locations may include the Bonds Traverse and other similar routes in the White Mountains.

Please note that this trip will leave at 10am on Friday; you must be able to leave at 10am on Friday from FitRec.
Clothing and equipment can be provided by BU Outdoor Programs upon request. Roundtrip transportation is provided from the BU Fitness and Recreation Center to the trip location.

Since this is an overnight trip, your attendance will be required at a pre-trip meeting with trip leaders to discuss additional details including the itinerary, gear, and meals. The meeting will be held about 2 weeks before the trip’s departure. An email will be sent providing further details on the exact date and time. Description: Lonesome Lake offers one of the most scenic winter hikes in New Hampshire. This trek offers a gradual climb through serene forest to a frozen lakeshore, where you’ll be rewarded with views of the surrounding peaks dusted in snow. Along the way, you'll learn about winter hiking techniques, layering, and how to be safe when enjoying the winter backcountry.

Description: Escape to the summit of Kearsarge North, one of the White Mountains’ most iconic peaks, on this challenging winter hike. The route climbs steadily through snowy forest before emerging at the historic fire tower, offering 360-degree views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. After the hike, we’ll warm up at a local café for a well-deserved treat.

Description: Join fellow BU faculty and staff for a scenic day hike to the summit of Mt. Israel in New Hampshire’s White Mountains. The trail offers a gradual climb through mixed forest before opening up to sweeping views of the Sandwich Range. This trip is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues outside the classroom while enjoying the fresh mountain air.

Utah Spring Break - 211176

Looking for an adventure packed Spring Break trip this year? Our 2nd annual multi-day, multi-sport adventure will be offered in Moab, UT, home of the expansive Arches national park and Dead Horse Point State Park.

This trip will include activities like rafting, hiking, and a day to choose your own adventure in some of the most beautiful landscapes this country has to offer. During the choose your own adventure day you have the option to choose between a canyoneering guided trip or jeep tour (both at an additional cost below) or explore the day in downtown Moab. Although activities do not require prior experience, an adventurous spirit is required as many of them can be physically and mentally challenging. Clothing and equipment can be provided by BU Outdoor Programs as needed.

Airfare is not included in the price of this trip. Participants are responsible for making it to SLC International Airport by 1pm on March 8, 2026. Transportation will be provided from SLC International Airport to Moab, UT at the start of the trip and back to SLC International Airport from Moab at the end of the trip.

If you would like to add on a guided adventure during the choose your own adventure day, you must register for this activity first. Once you are registered, you can select the Utah Optional Add On activity below, select your activity of choice in the questionnaire, and complete your purchase.

A $400 deposit is due upon registration (a $50 portion of this deposit is non-refundable) and final payment is due on January 30th. After adding the item to your cart, click "proceed to checkout" where you will find the option of paying the minimum deposit or paying up to the full amount.

Ready to turn your adventure up to the next level? If you are enrolled in the Utah Spring Break Trip, you have the option to add a guided trip during the "choose your own adventure" day. Please see the Utah, Spring Break trip description for more details.

Choose between a guided canyoneering trip or an exciting off road jeep tour through the vast landscape of Moab, UT. If you don't know what canyoneering is, take a look at this video to familiarize yourself prior to selecting this activity. After adding this activity to your cart, you will be prompted to select either canyoneering or jeep tour.

You must register for either add on adventure no later than February 15th.
