Volleyball, Beginning - 132101

This course is designed for beginners who have either no experience to only a few years of limited experience. Learn and practice techniques used in power volleyball: bump passing, setting, spiking, digging, and serving. Various drills will be used to encourage skill improvement.

Badminton, Beginning - 132108

The course is designed to teach badminton fundamentals and basic techniques. The fundamentals will be footwork and motion of swinging the racket. Rules will be explained; however, the course will not be exploring strategies. Required Equipment: Must have running shoes or badminton shoes. Having your own badminton racket is recommended.

Volleyball, Low Intermediate - 132190

Prerequisite: Volleyball, Beginning and ability to pass, set, hit and serve. Class time will be divided between drills to refine basics and implementing skills during scrimmages. Various offenses and defensive rotations will be introduced and incorporated into class scrimmages.

Intermediate Volleyball - 132201

Prerequisite: Volleyball, Low Intermediate, or competitive volleyball experience. Students should be able to serve, pass, set consistently, hit roll shots, and be familiar with the 4-2 and 5-1 rotation. Basic skills are briefly reviewed and practiced, and complex offenses and defenses are introduced and incorporated into class scrimmage. Class time will be primarily spent on implementing skills during scrimmages.

Advanced Volleyball - 132206

Prerequisite: Volleyball, High Intermediate, or significant competitive volleyball experience. Students should be able to serve, pass, set, hit consistently and be familiar with 5-1 and 6-2 rotations. Intermediate skills are reviewed and practiced. Complex offenses and defenses are incorporated into class scrimmages. Class time will be primarily spent on practicing skills during scrimmages (Doubles, 3 on 3, 4 on 4, or 6 on 6).

Fencing, Beginning - 134102

This course will cover the rules of fencing, basic footwork, techniques, and physical training. Classes will include warm-ups and footwork, followed by fencing with electrical equipment related to that week’s concepts. By the end of this course students will have a fundamental understanding of fencing and the discipline and sportsmanship that the sport requires. Required Equipment: Long, loose pants (sweatpants) and sneakers (preferably low to the ground to avoid ankle related injuries).

Tumbling Skills - 134109

Students will gain a basic understanding of gymnastics movements and skills, building into the fundamentals of tumbling, as well as further advanced tumbling skills.
Students will gain greater strength, flexibility, body control, spatial orientation and become comfortable with inversion, quick movement, and the connection of skills in a tumbling pass. Close-fitting athletic wear is required. Students with long hair will be required to have it worn up and away from their face and shoulders.

Table Tennis, Beginning - 134128

This course will allow students to understand the basic skills and concepts of table tennis in singles and doubles. Instruction will be focused on the elements of the modern offensive style of play, combining Chinese and American models. Students will be introduced to the two basic grips then learn forehands, backhands, service and receive, followed by advanced looping. Emphasis on psychology and strategies will be incorporated into the course.

Tae Kwon Do, Beginning - 135103

An ancient Korean art of self-defense. In Beginners Tae Kwon Do, we emphasize whole body and mental fitness through training in strength and conditioning, flexibility, endurance, basic upper body and lower body techniques, which include forms, stances, punches, blocks, kicks, and strikes; basic sparring skills, forms, and self-defense techniques. The practice of Tae Kwon Do develops character through courtesy, self-control, discipline, self-confidence, patience, physical fitness, attention, mental alertness, leadership, humility, perseverance, and respect.

Urban Bicycling - 137500

This class meets in the BU Cycle Kitchen Classroom, 1019 Commonwealth Ave (enter on Babcock), Room 100D. Students are required to have your own mechanically sound bicycle. Please bring your bike by the BU Cycle Kitchen (BUCK) before the start of class to ensure it is mechanically sound. If you do not have a bicycle, please contact the BUCK bikes@bu.edu! as soon as possible with your height and inseam length. Helmets will be provided if students do not already own them.”
