    317083 - Rowing, Beginning

    Participants are taught the fundamentals of the sweep rowing stroke on land, then in a stable training barge, and then in eight oared rowing shells. Sweep rowing is the style of rowing where each athlete holds one oar with both hands, and is commonly seen in college and Olympic rowing. Itís a great introduction to the sport in a group setting where teamwork is a major component of the class! Basic safety instruction and procedures are also taught and emphasized. It may be necessary to steer and take control of a crew and boat as a coxswain as part of the class. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the BU Boating Swim Test

    317100 - Rowing, Intermediate

    Prerequisite: Successful completion of a Beginning Rowing class or the equivalent and participants must pass the BU Boating Swim Test to qualify for this course only if they have not completed it within the past 5 years. This class is aimed towards the rower who has been introduced to the fundamentals of sweep rowing and is looking to improve their skills. All aspects of the rowing discipline are emphasized, including coxing. Instruction will emphasize more demanding workouts and technical considerations. A review of safety and operating procedures will be a part of this course.

    317115 - Sculling, Beginning

    Participants are taught the fundamentals of sculling on land and then progress to rowing recreational singles which are similar to a kayak. There may also be an opportunity to row a 4 person team sculling boat! Sculling is the style of rowing where each athlete holds one oar in each hand. Sculling is a terrific introduction to rowing as it develops core strength, and skill development progresses at a more individual pace than with sweeps rowing. Basic safety instruction and procedures are also taught and emphasized. Prerequisite: Successful completion of the BU Boating Swim Test

    317249 - Masters Rowing

    Prerequisite: Experience in the Intermediate Rowing classes or beyond and participants must pass the BU Boating Swim Test to qualify for this course only if they have not completed it within the past 5 years. This class will involve more rigorous workouts for those with some rowing experience as well as an emphasis on skill development. Eight oared shells will be used primarily with some use of four oared shell when necessary. A review of safety and operating procedures will be a part of this course. (Coxing may be required but we will look to have one dedicated coxswain per class as part of the course.)
