This class will introduce younger kids to the joys of the sport, with simple ball/wall games incorporating hand to eye co-ordination, agility/flexibility, learning the geometry of the court, and all while exposing them to the fun of low-key competition. The focus will gradually shift toward developing rudimentary forehand and backhand mechanics with the racquet. Exercises will progress beyond basic strokes as fundamental skills are consistently demonstrated; volleys, boasts, drops and lobs are potential avenues to explore when players demonstrate a readiness for the challenges of more advanced tactics/techniques. Ages 6-8.
Kids who are new to the game will learn all the basic strokes, scoring and regulations of play. More experienced players will refine their court sense and shot selection. Keeping it fun and safe for everyone is a strong component of our sessions. Drills and exercises to enhance consistency and address problem areas are followed by round-robin games. Participants should wear loose athletic clothing and non-marking sneakers. For ages 9-14.
Find success from the first day of play! Short court tennis introduces children to tennis in a format that assists quick progress by reducing court size, ball pressure, and net height. Fast progress on basic ground strokes encourages children to stay in the game and build the foundational skills for full court tennis success.
