The mission of the Teen Leadership Program at Boston University's FitRec is to improve the leadership abilities of a small group of 14 and 15 years old as they approach the start of their life outside of high school. The teen leaders will be exposed to multiple learning experiences including counselor training, sports safety, babysitter training and wilderness skills. By the completion of the program the teens will demonstrate skills in organization, communication, and team-work, and the confidence to become an effective and trusting leader.
Our two week dance camps are for dancers of all levels who want to learn in a fun and supportive environment. Students will hone their technical dance skills, work with our teachers to create original choreography and improve their performance skills for the culminating dance concert on the final day in the BU Dance Theater. On the first day, a placement class will determine the campers experience and ability and we will be able to group our classes accordingly. Campers will have daily classes in Ballet, Modern, Yoga/stretch, and Jazz/Hip Hop. Our program includes special classes in other styles of dance, such as Zumba, West African, and Making Dances (composition). Recreational swim will be offered as a daily activity with other fun activities planned including time on the rock wall, make-up, and arts and crafts projects.
Campers in the Sailing option will spend the majority of the afternoon on the beautiful Charles River. Spaces are limited. *Note: in order to participate in the sailing program, the camper must be at a level 4 swimming status as recommended by the American Red Cross Standards, and as evaluated by our aquatics staff.
This division of Swimsport Camp includes two swim lessons each day with our certified swim instructors. This division has been created for those children who are looking for an alternative activity to sailing or for those who are working towards passing their swim test in order to sail in future sessions.
The Competitive Swim division is designed for swimmers ages 9- 14. Each swimmer must be able to swim 50 yards of all four competitive strokes: butterfly, backstroke, breast-stroke and freestyle. There is no time limit, however team experience is preferred. Campers will swim twice a day and sessions will include stroke technique work, refinement of starts and turns and endurance building. Each day campers will meet with coaches to discuss topics such as nutrition, racing strategies, sports psychology and injury prevention - all with an underlying focus on the joy of swimming. Campers will receive video taped underwater stroke analysis and personalized footage to take home. Each session will conclude with a mock meet and spectators are encouraged to attend!
These two week camps are available for tweens and teens ages 11-15, regardless of their rock climbing experience. In addition to having more time on the rock wall, FitRock campers will learn and practice crucial foundational climbing techniques - instruction will cover efficient movement, belay training, coping with fear, and risk management skills for indoor and outdoor settings. Campers will also enjoy swimming, yoga, and court sports in the Fitness Center. The major highlight of the climbing interest is the outdoor climbing component. The FitRock camp will culminate with a day trip to one our own beautiful New England outdoor climbing destination, during which the campers will work with our expert outdoor instructors to rope climb, boulder, and experience the joy of outdoor recreation. Please contact email@example.com with any questions about the camp!
