This class features a variety of restorative postures, therapeutic movements, gentle joint stretches, basic sun salutations, seated postures, and standing postures. Each class concludes with a 20-minute guided meditation using techniques such as visualization and breath awareness to develop mindfulness, tranquility, and insight. Good for beginners as well as those with experience.

Ashtanga Yoga - 115804

Literally, "eight limbed yoga," Ashtanga yoga is similar to Vinyasa in that breath and movement are connected. However, in Ashtanga yoga, participants move through a precise series of postures, repeating the series until mastered, and then moving on to the next series. Each semester, class will begin with the Primary series, which focuses on detoxifying and aligning the body. If possible based on the participants, the class will then move to subsequent series.

Students will be guided through the energizing and flowing sequence of postures that comprise the full Primary Series of Ashtanga Yoga, including intermediate backbends, arm balances, and inversions. For those who wish to experience new potentials of strength and flexibility. Prereq: PDP MB 102 or prior yoga experience and ability.

Sivananda Yoga - 115815

In addition to a typical class with breathing exercises, sun salutations, 12 basic asanas and deep relaxation, the focus is on mastery of the asanas from which variations are then added to further deepen the practice. These asanas allow for the systematic movement of every major part of the body in a balanced way that enhances prana or life force energy, keeping the mind quiet. Additional variations may also be taught.
